Business Transformation Agency
December 10, 2008
Arlington, Va. – In the context of a recent DoD Directive, which establishes the BTA as a Defense Agency under the authority, direction and control of the Deputy Chief Management Officer (DCMO), BTA Director David Fisher rolls out eight documents which outline BTA's guiding principles to advance Defense business transformation.
The first of eight transition documents, DoD Business Transformation: Challenge, Opportunity and Guiding Principles, highlights that the new administration will nominate a Deputy Secretary of Defense who for the first-time, will serve as the Department's Chief Management Officer. This document poses questions for consideration by new leadership regarding DoD's business operations. These questions address the Business Mission Area for military organizations, the nature of progress in DoD's business operations, a view of successful business within the Department and foundational elements needed to achieve desired results.
With a mission to guide the transformation of business operations throughout DoD and to deliver enterprise-level capabilities which align to warfighter needs, BTA has identified specific enablers that are hallmarks of successful transformation initiatives. In BTA's Six S's of Success, Fisher outlines guiding principles which provide a path to transformation business as well as the means to evaluate the measurable impact of the effort.
"There is a wealth of opportunity for improved support to our warfighters and senior decision makers," said Fisher. "DoD's new leadership will need to maintain a visible and aggressive commitment to progress. To this end, BTA has identified the following six guiding principles as the bedrock of business transformation efforts, and the concepts around which results can be measured."
